I was sitting at my computer desk and heard a familiar knocking. my first reaction was, there is someone knocking on my sliding door on the deck. our entrance door is at the side of the house and so most people come up to the deck and think the sliding door is where they should knock. I looked, but there wasn't anyone there.
I knew now who was "calling"! I took the camera
and went downstairs to the entrance hall. the door was open and all I had to do, was opening the screen door real quietly. I looked along the wooden overhang of our kitchen where I seen a woodpecker last year doing some picking. to my surprise, I didn't see one, but the knocking I heard continued. I went a little further to were our four windows are to the side yard and wouldn't you know, I looked up and there he/she was. I saw no red marking and so I figured it's a female looking for insects. she was so busy, she let me get real close.
Fantastic meeting and a beautiful shot of this great bird.
Ina + I went to a nature reserve area in the neigbourhood to take pic. to day. Back before the thunderstorm started.
Yes- looks like a female Downy or Hairy (I can't tell the size- if it's small, it's the Downy; if it's a little larger but not as big as a Robin, it's the Hairy). Good shot!
Great shot of her, Bruni! She looks like a Downy from this angle. If her beak is as long as her head then she's a Hairy. Either way, a fabulous shot! Fav.
