Toronto Wild Life Centre claims it’s a common myth that a raccoon walking around during the day is sick or has rabies. It’s true that raccoons are mostly nocturnal, but they can be active during the day for many different reasons.
We were sitting around the computer showing our daughter some of my pictures when I saw a plump looking raccoon walking leisurely across our driveway, crossing the street and to the neighbor's driveway. I grabbed my camera and walked slowly after him. I guess he got scared and climbed up a hydro pole, giving me lots of opportunity to take pictures. back at the house I turned around and saw the raccoon had disappeared.
Fun shot- he must have been hungry. I've seen a few during the day too but didn't know it was a myth that it means they're sick if you see them in the day. Thanks for the info!
