I took my camera into town this afternoon, looking for a shop with Christmas decoration on the window. Lucky for me I did not see any.
As we walked around, picking up a few bits, I walked past this memorial, which reads: The hospital on the Marlow Hill was built and this cross was raised to the glorious memory of the men of this town and neighbourhood who gave their love in the Great War 1914-1918
Then on the bottom plinth: To the ever-living memory of those of this town who made the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War 1939-45.
I stopped for a moment to think about the tribute of both the Poppy decoration and for all those who had been decorated for their service during these two wars.
(Sorry it's a serious one today - I promiss to return to normal madnes tomorrow)
Oh no, picking up more bits!! Normal service will be resumed asap!! Excellent interpretation I was wanting to do my Father's MC but gave it to his son, bum! So, good one Mr Bulldog and when you read those words it really makes you stop and think...........well done
Goodness.....A rare serious side.....Its beautiful & i love how the light is catching it & the sentiment behind it!.....I guess we all have to get a little serious sometimes! : )
It just shows that you have a great sense of humor and very much respect those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. It's good to have these reminders.
As it's not Armistice Day for another month , your shot provides another thought to ponder on - the wreaths are probably last year's, they still look fresh and, most strikingly, they are still there after 11 months, unviolated. That is mostly true of every war memorial in the country so there is still some respect in the world, and also the feeling that most people realise there are boundaries they should not over-step. So your shot's quite a heartening observation as well. Nicely done.
Thank you all for your kind words and more importantly your thoughts. This is a lovely memorial, it is right in the center of my local town and it is kept very clean. The wreaths looked to be fresh Alison, if may be that there are a local remembrance a few days ago?
