Feb 08: Rust by bulldog

Feb 08: Rust

This has always meant a lot to me.
Although I have added to it over the years (see the shiny bolts), this was my Grandads screw box and I still remember it sitting on his work bench (that had a secret draw).
I know is a fairly mundane shot but it is rusty and I think of Grandad every time I use it.

I understand this totally. I have boxes just like it in my basement that were my father's and his father's before him. I will never part with them. And every now and then Tom finds just what he needs.

So sweet!

I'm not sorry for going serious now and then. This screw tin is holding up very well considering I have been using it for over 25 years and I don't know how log Grandad had it. I will have to ask my dad.

What a great thing to have.
February 9th, 2013
My Dad had one like this, my Mom had a button box but my Grandma's was the best, hers was the cookie tin. I love pictures that not only tell your story, they make everyone else think of their own
February 9th, 2013
It's always a great photo when it is of a memory.

What a special treasure--and something that must be photographed. Oh, it's things like this that so touch my heart. I never even knew my grandparents, so this is so wonderful that you have it.
February 9th, 2013
can't beat special. ever.
February 9th, 2013
I love how something as simple as this reminds you of your Grandpa. All it can take is a smell, small object, or a rusted screw box and your right back with them.

If it calls up something special in you, then it is meaningful.

Understand completely. I still have lots of my Dad's tools, some still wrapped in 'oily rags' (he wrapped just about everything in oily rags!) My best possession is his huge pair of binoculars which we were not allowed to touch without his permission. I still feel guilty using them! Love your shot, it's a great choice.

Lovely rusty box of memories.

An evocative shot. You've reminded me of my grandad's shed with all the various tools etc. I can see him now!

Hello Bulldog! For some reason, I have thought about this image several times today... Yes, i have a life... a very busy one, too... May I suggest you tag it for the EOTB2 challenge? I think it's a perfect fit!
