! went to Abington Park yesterday to see how the widowed swan and her cygnets were getting on.This is a shot of her with one of her remaining four cygnets.Originally, she had five...she must have lost one,as I could only see four.
Previous shot of her is shown on May 23rd.
Oh .... this is so beautiful. So graceful and the lighting on them is wonderful. I feel so bad about the loss of part of her family. But she's a grand lady!!
Another beautiful shot of this poor widowed swan. My heart breaks when I hear of any bird who mates for life losing his or her mate. She still looks beautiful and is a strong elegant lady ;-) Fav.
Lovely shot. Its nice to hear an update on how she is getting along. To loose only one is still impressive, so many predators view chicks as their version of fast food
@darsphotos .There are some high railings around part of the lake, some construction work going on.Her mate mustn't have seen them, and flew into them, and was killed.I suppose he must have broken his neck!
@carolmw How sad. I wish that nature could be as it was years ago but things do happen and some of the work has to get done. I followed a nest of Eagles last year and the Mom flew into a plane as it landed nearby. Not a great place to have huge trees, eagles and an airstrip that can kill the eagles and has in the past. But what can we do.
