Hummingbird Hawk Moth

I went to take a shot of a Peacock Butterfly on my Buddleia, and spotted this rare sight.I've never seen one before,so was really pleased to get some shots.I reported my sighting to "Butterfly Conservation",as they are interested in discovering the migratory habits of the Hummingbird Hawk Moth.

A wonderful find and capture -- I Fond one in my garden a couple of years ago and after discovering what it was I also reported my sighting to the "Butterfly Conservation " -- at that time they had a map with the sightings in the UK on their site ! My capture was not to the standard of yours !! as he was so quick in movement ! A fav for me Carol !

How exciting to see this and to capture him for posterity in these great shots. I saw one about five years ago and remember googling 'a butterfly that looks a bit like a humming bird' Was amazed when I actually got results from the search! Sadly haven't seen one since!

Great shots - I first saw these in France 30 years ago but they seem much more common in England now and are quite regular visitors to our garden.

Great shots. I saw one of these last summer and thought it was a giant bumble bee as that is what it looked like to me. I was glad to hear that it wasn't a bee and that it doesn't sting. I only wish I hadn't shot it through a window now! Fav.
