Male Mandarin Duck In "Eclipse" Plumage by carolmw

Male Mandarin Duck In "Eclipse" Plumage

Mandarin ducks moult between May and August, and are flightless for about a month during that time. The male resembles the female during that time, but with less obvious face marks,a redder bill and glossier plumage.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs, always much appreciated. Thanks, too, for putting my Raven shot in the TT.It was a lovely surprise.

I remember seeing Mandarin drakes in their eclipse plumage for the first time a few years ago and, not realising that their plumage was bright only in breeding season, thinking they were immature adults!
Well seen and captured, love the light.
