My sister planted this flower in a pot a few years ago and very often I'll take photos of it at different angles and such. Here I took a macro shot and tilted the flower so that the sun would cast light around the water drops.
I used to call this flower "My Sister's Flower," but recently learned that its official name is the Madagascar Periwinkle. Today I did some research and found out that not only is it a popular flower grown in gardens and homes across the warmer parts of the world, but it's also used in the treatment of cancer. One compound derived from this flower is vincristine, which is credited with raising the survival rate in childhood leukaemia from less than 10 % in 1960 to over 90% today! What a powerful and refreshing little doctor this flower has been :)
Gorgeous photo appended by some very interesting information. I read that one of the reasons the rainforest is such a terrible thing to lose is because of all the natural healing agents it contains. I like how you called this little periwinkle a 'doctor'.
Thanks again for stopping by to have a look at one of my picture. The macro feather came out so nicely thanks to the fact the sun finely shown for me. Nothing beats natural light, does it.
