Well, not exactly face to face. I was leaning around a blackberry bush trying not to fall into the weeds. I was also zooming to the max! He is scary looking!!!
I know this one is a male, because he has the tuft of long, silvery white hairs on the tip of his abdomen. I think the one yesterday, that I captured with the butterfly, was a female.
@5unflow3r No, they are in a different family. They are in the Asilidae family. They prey on a variety of insects. I have a wonderful insect guide that I use. I am really learning a lot about insects and flowers doing my project. :0)
@rach_who I had seen the one yesterday with the poor little butterfly, so I was a little leery of it myself! They make a really loud buzzing sound when they fly too!
Carolyn, I"ve been identifying men for years by the silver tufts of hair on their abdomen!! This photo is fantastic. You should be making money with your little ones. He is at once scary and magnificent!
Thanks for looking and admiring my photos, Carolyn. Good to hear from you. So much to catch up on... including getting a new computer so I can easily download 1600 Turkey photos.
@annamaker I'll never look at silver tufts of hair the same again! lol
I love your bug photos!
