Going up

I learned a lesson today. Do not try to move a praying mantis with a short grass stem. They are really fast and will run up the stem and onto your hand!!! That was the end of the photo shoot! I'm really lucky that I didn't get bitten. LOL! The praying mantis was not harmed. :0)

The wildflower the praying mantis is climbing is in the mint family and is a Beefsteak Plant.

Thank you so much for all the kind comments on my pics this week!!! They mean so much to me! :0)
WOW! What an amazing capture! The composition is perfect! FAV!

September 11th, 2011
@nikkers I didn't scream, but I did shake it off me rather quickly! They bite! It was little, but I've seen them close up and they looked wicked! LOL!

lol , These guys dont bother me...

I had a huntsman the size of my hand, stuck to my bike glove once,, was riding my motorbike and it had crawled on my pants at a stop. then crawled up my leg, when I saw it I tried to brush it aside and it glued itself to my glove. There was a car full of young guys next to me, and they saw what was happening and laughed themselves silly. Until the lights changed and I threw the spider into their car,, yes the window was open.. I tool off fast, but was watching my mirror, and one guy jumped out the car freaking out!! lmao!!

@nikkers You are one brave lady! Those things are huge! I love that you threw it in their car! It serves them right! LOL!

You made me laugh with this one, especially with the description. Had to Fav for sure!
September 11th, 2011
Yes, but they do not bite. Their feet are pretty prickly though and it feels like they scratch you.

Amazing detail.
September 11th, 2011
@cjwhite . yeah, bet they had to wash the car seats after that..

@digitalrn Wikipedia says they can bite, but have no venom. My stepdad has been bitten by one. I guess we have an aggressive bunch living here. LOL!
September 11th, 2011
Not harmed? I wouldn't be worried about him if he got on me. I'm probably hurt myself!
September 11th, 2011

When I was a child I saw one of there standing straight up rubbing his front legs together and I ran told my mom there was a little green man on a bush rubbing his hands. Too many fairy tales. LOL. Nice capture. I didn't know they would bite.
