Guarding the eggs by cjwhite

Guarding the eggs

I found a Green Lynx Spider with her egg sac. I did some more research on them after I took the pic. They lay 25-600 bright orange eggs. They guard the sac and attack everything that comes near. It's probably for the best that I read the attacking part, after I took the pics. They are not venonmous, but have been known to bite humans. The bite would be like a bee sting. They get their name from their ability to pounce on their prey in a catlike fashion. YIKES!!! I think I'll leave them alone now! :0)
Eek!! I've never seen a spider like that before. Fascinating and great info on it too. :)

@anitahoyle Somedays I'm lucky and I find them quickly. Other days it takes awhile. I live on 5 acres of land and it's surrounded by woods on two sides. I look in my hayfield, a little of my neighbor's field, and the edge of the woods. I do a lot of walking, which is another benefit I've gotten from the 365. I get fresh air and I walk. :0)

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK! I know you told me they might jump on you when you saw my picture of one of these up today...but now I read your blurb...this line is my favorite (not) --
They guard the sac and attack everything that comes near.

Nice. I guess my spider was not really that good of a mother because I got really close and "petted" her with a grassy reed...no attack. She might have a hangover or something. Haha

Do you have external flash? This pic is terrific. Have to fav it. I took my with a flippin' Blackberry...bah! and it was dusky and dark so it was so hard to get it to stand out from the leaves and stuff...thus, the crazy editing on mine.

I guess mine is a "Pink Lynx Spider" based on her colors....
September 20th, 2011
@espyetta I shoot with a P&S, but I don't use my flash outside. I had good lighting, when I took this pic. :0)
