I've always called these insects, June Bugs. The correct name is Green June Beetle. When I was little, we would catch them and tie a string on their leg. It was like having a flying bug on a leash. I can't remember where we got the idea to do this. :0)
I've had a couple of rough days. I spent time with family tonight. We celebrated my daughter Leah's birthday. Being with family is the best!!!. :0)
Sorry to hear that Carolyn, hope things are looking up now - love the shiny surface of the beetle and the love the contrast between all the shades of green.
Wow you really did capture him perfectly...just the detail alone gives it a fav! But the funny thing is i didnt notice that many June bugs this year in Texas and believe me we get a ton of them each year!! So maybe they will be July Bug this year! :)
Hard to imagine being able to tie a piece of string on one of these! Nice capture of this one. Sorry to hear you've had a bad time and hope your family helps make it up for you.
You made me smile with the thought of tying a string to a leg like a pet! They're really cool looking and you captured the details great. Where I grew up you used to get "thousands" of them (we were kids, what did we know!) and we'd squish 'em!
Hlad to know his real name - you've caught his nice detail and color. Doing things like you mentioned I guess was the fun part of summer - having a harder time rememberting what I use to like about summer this year! Hope this is a happier day. Sure enjoying your photography.
So happy to hear you had a nice day with your family and wishing your daughter a belated birthday. Now that you mentioned it, I haven't seen any June bugs around here this year. They used to be all over the place.
Gorgeous June bug ... he looks like a jewel. Such beautiful colors and clarity! Happy that you got to spend time with the family and a belated Happy Birthday to your daughter!!
Good capture of the June bug. When I was growing up, we put a thread on one and wore it like a necklace. Now, as an adult, I would much rather take a picture of one.
Sorry you're having a rough patch.
