Beautiful capture. Great details. I vote for house finch due to the stripes on the chest. However, there is a lot of red on this finch.

@chard I had to look in a different bird book. We don't have them in Tennessee. I wish we did! They are a type of finch. From what I read, they only visit your area while migrating. :0)

He looks an awful lot like our purple finches here in Arkansas - though they definitely are red (not purple) with the brown markings on the breast.

It looks like a purple finch in my bird book. The house finch has a flatter head and is far redder even in winter.

It is probably a house finch, no red on the wings which it seems the purple finches have....they are so close sometimes it is hard to tell apart even with as good a photo as this!
