It was a cold, rainy Monday. I spotted Woody from my kitchen window trying to get away from the rain. He stayed in this spot for about 30 minutes. He left as soon as the rain stopped.
I've only seen Woody with another Red-bellied Woodpecker one time. He and another male were having a loud confrontation in the top of one of the maple trees. I saw a female earlier this winter. She was here before Woody returned. Maybe she's Woody's mate.
Thank you for your kind comments on my recent bird pics! It won't be long before the butterflies are back. I've seen a couple of Cabbage Whites on our warmer days, but I wasn't able to get a decent pic. I was just happy to see them out and about! :0)
He is definitely puffed out for the weather. Nice shot in the trees. Glad to hear you've at least seen some cabbage whites - all I've noticed so far is the clouded sulphurs - and I'm guessing they never went far. I'm so ready for the butterflies.
