I've been seeing these little lizards all my life, mostly from a distance. I didn't know their correct name until I researched them tonight. It's a Common Five-lined Skink. I've always thought of them as snakes with legs. :0)
We have a similar species here, the juveniles have the bright blue tails that they shed readily if threatened. The blue tail wriggling violently distracts predators, often birds, while the lizard slips away to fight again another day. Great capture!
