BACK UP FILES & PICTURES!!! I work from a laptop and save to an external hard drive that is backed up on the cloud. My ext. hard drive fell off my desk and and didn't work, so I thought..."Ok, I'll go get my files off the cloud." When I checked the folder they were supposed to be in, the folder was EMPTY!! We had done some maintenance on my laptop and some settings got changed, and files were no longer being backed up. Long story short... the drive is at a professional company that restores files (at a great cost $$$). I'm hoping they can recover over 100,000 pictures. My son is helping me move from a laptop to a desktop CPU, and will have more onsite backup along with cloud backup. I just want to take pictures and do all the fun things we do here on 365, but I don't like the technical aspects! So my advice.... have several layers of back up for your images. If you have some great setups, please share before I get totally set up! Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulder!
Oh Carolyn, what an awful feeling in the pit of your stomach! Such a nightmare - expensive lesson, but I'll sure be watching for ideas from others - I'm not real good about backing up - do it monthly to an external and a CD (I know - not a good option, really). Do hope they're able to get those pictures back!
Oh no! Hope you get everything recovered.. We've also had to have a similar recovery done (Yes, at great $$$) Scary.... I even had one new and lengthy file disappear on the computer, and we couldn't find it. (I did have a printout of it but needed it on the computer.) It had been saved to the computer, but not yet backed up since it was done mainly that day!!! Took it in to our computer gurus. They couldn't find it and said it had never existed. I showed them my printout.... Never did figure that one out.
I'm so sorry and really have my fingers crossed that you can recover your pictures. I just save all my photos to an external drive and haven't had a problem yet. I didn't realize if you drop it that such a problem would result - ouch!
I hope they can recover the files for you, my husband is back up crazy. Two drives the second mirrors the first and even when I delete images they go to a safety net on the second drive ... and he even talks about a third.
Oh no! I have everything on Carbonite. The other day, I thought nothing was there and I called customer support. It was all okay. I also have an external drive for a mirror drive but it's full. I need another. The mirror backs up fully each week and changes each day. I, too, need to get it all right! I hope you get your photos.
