My brother and nieces are visiting us at the moment and we took them into GOMA where the kids got to make birds and nests as part of Fiona Hall's 'Fly Away Home' workshop. This is my mother reading the instructions to my kids and one of my nieces (in the middle) as there was only one set of instructions between 5 kids.
I think our kids were the only ones who made their own art without adult intervention (ie - when a parent ... usually the mother ... makes it "properly" and the poor kid gets bored waiting for her to finish "their" masterpiece).
I think its sad when parents focus on doing like the destructions say rather than letting a child experiment with their own sense of design.....
PS - Thank you everyone for your recent comments and favs. With my brother and nieces visiting us, I haven't had time to reply to your lovely comments nor check out your wonderful work, but please know that I will get there!!!
Hey Amanda, I'm so with you on adults doing the childrens work/art anything. The achievement is in the doing not the final product. I was a Montessori teacher and never touched art or activities that belonged to the child....oops better climb down off my soap box.... beautiful capture. I love love love GOMA.....
Lol I have to remind hubby of this at times... my standard line... JUST LET HIM DO IT AND LET HIM BE!!! Hence the jellyfish which I held the body of whilst Oskar put tentacles all over it has oh like a gazillion tentacles lol...
Great POV Amanda, so nice to have your mum visit and spend some time. It's just right and proper that the kids get bored with us adults doing it properly and right, they will have their chance one day too :)
I'm sure your kids and nieces had a fantastic time creating their bird feeders. Did they hang them out for the birds? Nice photo to remember their fun day.
awesome shot, keeper for the all time album memory shots for sure!!!! destructions should always be thrown out when it comes to kids - their imagination is way better.
Nice capture, Amanda :)
