Seeing the background is a learned skill that takes a lot of time to develop. Looking at this, K actually did very well. She has you offset and looking into the photo. She has a very straight fence line. She shot you vertically (which is also a skill that has to be taught.) She also avoided the #1 issue most people of all ages have when photographing people: she didn't put your face dead center in the picture! So my congrats to K for a nicely composed portrait!
@kannafoot Oh I like it - its a good one of me. It just makes me laugh. It is a learned skill! My entire family suffers from weird background-itis :) My Pop would only take photos of people if they were standing next to a plant in his garden or a crop of some fruit he'd grown ... the people were always offsett and tiny, but BOY could you see that glorious tree!
