Returned from holiday to the sight of a tarpaulin over part of the church roof, as the lead has been stolen for the third and final time.
It was also removed at the time of the torrential rain last week so there is also damage to both the vestry and office :(
It will cost far more to repair than the selfish thieves will get for it.
It is time to regulate the whole scrap metal industry, why is the government dragging it's heals over this issue?
So sorry to read that ... it is a problem in Belfast too ... thankfully our roof is too high for it to be a danger ... but feel for so many churches who have had lead stolen.
There is a very easy answer. Have the roof done with lead-coloured glass fibre. You can even get the fancy nail heads and other bits to make it look just like lead only the thieves can't get it off and it is sooo much cheaper than lead and lasts much much longer. That is what we have had on our bay roof.
