Today I was liturgical deaconing at my placement church, which meant I got to wear an alb for the first time ever! This does not mean I am a Deacon, but I was performing the role a deacon is allowed to take in a communion service.
Wonderful privilege. Thank you to my placement church for making me so welcome, and allowing me to take part in worship and allowing me to experience a different style of worship.
I was never really struck on robes, until I attended a Taize Mass at Greenbelt. A person in jeans and a sweat shirt did the reading, and understood for the first time how much we look at clothing when people are leading worship, and how robing makes the person more anonymous, allowing us to focus on the role, and the worship.
