I was honored to grab a quick photo of one of my favorite characters this afternoon, the Pillsburry Doughboy. He was a bit shy, but did agree to a quick pop in. This little mascot of the Pillsburry Company appeared in commercials world wide from 1965 through 2004. He became well known for his little belly being poked which generated his cute little giggle. He was origanally created by Rudy Perez in 1965 while he sat in his kitchen struggling under pressure to come up with an advertising campaign. The rest is history. After 2004 the Doughboy disappeared until recently reappearing in 2011. I had one of the originals from back in the early 70's bought for me by a friend. During a nasty break-up, my little friend disappeared. I think he was kidnapped and burried alive or perhaps melted at the stake. Anyway, this same friend just recently came across this replacement at an antique shop, and kindly bought it, and presented it to me last year. What a sweet gesture on her part. I still miss my original, but this one sits proudly on my shelf with other pieces I've collected. For those who may not be familiar with the Doughboy, check out the link below. One of my favorites. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/pillsbury-doughboy-christmas-commercial/e9619f4123589b92e6a8e9619f4123589b92e6a8-525192004707?q=pillsburry%20doughboy%20commercials
Cute shot and perfect angle. I'm sorry you're stuck home while you heal, but I'm sure it won't be for long. You don't strike me as someone who'd be laid up for long anyways.
@sarasdadandmom Hey, thanks for asking. The hand's coming along. I have been trying to exercise my grip as much as I can, trying to prepare for Friday, though my thumb doesn't move at all at this point due to the cast. I cut down to one Vicodin at a time and 2 Advil. That seems to be working for the most part. Only had two Vicodin today. Trying to tough it out. Friday I will definitely whimp out and take 2 Vicodin before seeing the surgeon. I know he is going to manipulate the thumb. I want to be prepared. I will have a bullet along as well, to bite on that is LOL.
Maybe two bullets for Friday... I was just remembering my first physical therapy appointment after I had surgery to remove a bone fragment from my elbow when I fell and broke it. I toughed it out all the way through my hour long PT (torture) session until I got home and cried like a baby. Haha Ahhhh ... good times. You'll be fine!
@digitalrn If you can, soon as you get that off your thumb, get a very soft ball and squeeze it. You will get the flexibility back quicker. I am sending you a couple of bullets to bite on.
he sure is a smile getter
when we left 6 flags a few summers ago they were handing out this guy on t shirts and also had cake for everyone
it was his birthday... he was on his 40th birthday tour!
@miata2u Peggy, thanks for asking. I am still having a fair amount of pain, but trying to manage. Friday I go back to have sutures removed, then begin therapy. It is worse than I thought it would be, but hopefully worth it all.
Love the angle of this shot and the story made me happy. I'm glad your friend replaced the one whose fate is unknown. I was just telling my mom about your surgery today because she had knee replacement surgery in February. Like you, she hates taking the pain pills, but she still takes one 45 minutes before her physical therapy because she can work harder at PT if she does and she wants a full recovery.
I am not familar with doughboy, but he is quite a cute little fella and I like the way you composed him. Best of luck on Friday, don't be afraid of those pain killers!
Oh this is such a cute mascot. Nice editing & framing. This reminds me of a little dutch doll with clogs & blue & white clothes which was a mascot for Dutch Boy Paints.that I kept for years
An oldie but a goodie: The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Dough Boy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children, John Dough, Jane Dough, and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the Oven. Services were held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
Wow - who'd have thought the Doughboy would be so darn popular?! Nice photo, Rick!
Perhaps, one of the 10 greatest advertising characters of the 20th century, and who knows, maybe even the 21st. I like the photo, Rick, with the doughboy peeking into shot.
I found one for a friend @ the Goodwill for 50 cents! It was still in it's original box.......you would have thought I gave her gold :) Love your picture! Great Blast from the Past!!!
Awwwww, I love the Pillsbury Dough Boy! You know, I really didn't know that he was gone for that long! That is really sweet that your friend bought you another one as a replacement.
Ah, memories ! I had a Doughboy cookie jar that was in constant use when my kids were little. When we moved, and the kids grew, he was put in the attic, lovingly. I might have to bring him back down now that I have all these grandbabies running around ! Great shot !!
hee hee love him. . . . . we always had a little doughboy propped up in the kitchen of my grandmother's house. . . this brings back wonderful memories.
