I was in the basement tonight doing some work, and decided to do a few minutes on the Eliptical that's been sitting idle for many weeks. After about 10 minutes my left knee began to ache so I decided to give it a break. Got off and looked at the machine and thought, wow, that was a good idea, but really, what a waste of money. My Wife used to work for a physical therapy office and wanted to invest in a good piece of equipment that would afford her the opportunity to walk in any kind of weather. So after shopping around and looking into the machines that were recommended by her physical therapist friends, we settled on this really cool machine put out by Smooth Fitness. It really is a nice machine, quite large for the home, and it just made it down the basement stairs. You know, as cool as the machine is, and as smooth as it operates, it really hasn't done much for us, yet. Now if we could only commit to using it on a regular basis, we might see some results. So with that in mind, I told myself tonight that I am going to try my best to get into the habit of using it. I really need to lose a few pounds, well, really, quite a few, so here's hoping I can convince myself to do so. In an attempt to psych myself into a plan of action, I took a few self photos as a starting point, kind of motivational tactic, and I am going to post it somewhere where I can see it, then every so many weeks I will take another to see if I can notice a difference. Dependng on how succssful this is, somewhere in the future I will post a before and after photo to share my progress. If it fails, you'll never hear about it again.
You just *know* there are many of us sheltering similar machinery with much the same results... I wish you the best! (I'd be too embarrassed to show mine covered in suitcases and coathangers...)
Makes for a really interesting shot. We have a few of those "good idea at the time" pieces of equipment. I wish you the very best of luck! Hope to hear about some good results!
I applaud your determination. If I had a nickel for every piece of exercise equipment that is sitting unused in someone's bedroom, basement or family room, I'd be a very lady. I've got a Wii that I used faithfully for 2 months til I broke a toe and (not on the Wii) and lost my momentum. Someday...
What a great perspective. Neat textures! Good luck on your next endeavor! I workout 5 times a week and have for quite some time. My body does not look how it should, but the exercise does wonders for dealing with stress. I hope you enjoy it!
This made me laugh. After years of buying exercise equipment at yard sales that I never used, I finally promised my husband "no more." I still think I would have liked that cross-country skiing machine if I had more time. I hope those before and after photos do end up here...
Good luck with the exercise, Rick. Starting is always the most difficult part I think, or getting around to starting. Once you have a routine, it all becomes so much easier (this is what I tell myself!)
Cool perspective! I have never seen a worn out piece of home work-out equipment. Those darn home machines last forever! Get some good music going and good luck! They say you have to do something every day for 2 weeks before it becomes habit.
Go for it Rick! That's how my friend and I got started swimming. We knew we needed the exercise. We assumed it was helping, but didn't realize how much until they closed it for repairs a week ago. As each day goes by and more things tighten back up, I'm seeing just how much it was doing for me and praying it will be fixed ASAP!! Put a picture up everywhere- but what I think what will be the biggest motivational factor is how good you feel once you get into the routine!
love the color! Preparing your body to get stronger takes time! I have a chronic neck injury that gives me trouble every day. I have good weeks at the gym and bad weeks. On the good weeks, I can feel my neck strengthen and is causes me less pain. I only wish I could bring myself to have more good weeks than bad!! :)
Isn't that the way with exercise gear, full of good intentions but fall by the wayside through commitment & boredom ! I find it mush better to get out & about with camera in hand & walk ! Kill two birds with one stone !!
I'm with you, Rick. We had a treadmill so long with very little useage - the belt dried up and fell off. Hahahahaha - it was pretty funny except for the money we wasted on it. We had to take it apart when we downsized 3 years ago and moved into a townhome. Soooooo... good luck with your machine. I'm sure you can do better than we did. :) Happy Father's Day tomorrow!
I agree with you. if we could only follow through..the best of incentive doesn't work. not if you finally make the first move. years ago we bought one of those monstrocipies of an Box flex machine and had t practically empty out the spare bedroom to fit it in. we used it for awhile and then got away from it and sofar never found our way back. I for one should lose a little weight..I sit too much at the computer... so shall we give it a try?
This guy is really something. brings on a smile. under stress or just relazing out on our lake would make me as happy as a lark. I don't like trolling as its too noisy..but still fishing from a boat is heaven...of course I would never go out there on my own. so now that we're retired the two of us can enjoy it and unwind. hope you will find the time now to go fishing.
That's a great idea Rick!!! I need to lose a few kindergartners worth of weight...I'll snap a photo of a before to push me to an after photo. Love the pic...kind of abstract.
Nice shot, been there done that, well DH did. hahaha However it seems all he needed to do was get active, he has lost a few inches of his waist while we were out with DD for those 3 months, having trouble with pants and trackies. Good thing to know, all that weeding and raking and pushing the wheelbarrow did it for him that all it needed. There is a saying, "If it's meant to me, it's up to me". I think it's a pretty good thing to follow. Every success to you in shaping your new you.
Hellcat just said what I was going to say.....I just know if anyone can do it you can Rick! You impress me as being very organized and efficient so I just know you'll do what you have to do! Good luck! :)
Creative shot ! And I think it is wise to put it out in public and in print what your goals are...I find it helps me be more accountable. Good luck, good health !
