The other night I was playing arounbd with my camera, using my macro lens, and there was something about this photo that was appealing to me, so I chose it for one of the week's theme photos. I must have taken about 20 different shots of this one as well as other screws and bolts. A little while back there was a thread on the discussion board that posed the question, how you choose your photo for the day. I don't know how it all woprks for you, but when I have several photos, and I am trying to choose one, I will look at them over and over again until one keeps speaking to me. Not literally of course. I don't want you to think I've gone completely crazy. Now I do realize that ging crazy would be a short trip for me, but not there yet, LOL. Usually there is something about the photo that makes me feel good, something that makes it more appealing to look at than the others. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, this is my post for today. How was your day today? My day was good. Have a wonderful evening.
I know exactly what you mean!!! I look at them over and over, unless some miracle has happened and one jumps out at first go around. That doesn't happen for me very often. LOL! I really like this pic! The color is beautiful and the lighting is perfect! :0)
Yes I do know what you mean about having the struggle to choose one photo for the day. That's why I finally decided to up my profile to the ace account. That way I could post things for the themes and discussions when my photo of the day didn't fit the requirements! But it is hard to choose sometimes. I usually opt for the one I feel is the best all around. It "speaks" to me as you put it, but also has balance, good lighting or coloring, the composition works well and has the subject in focus. It has to be aesthetically pleasing too. What's nice about this shot is the sheen on the metal. It's not brassy bright, it has a softer golden shine to it.
Great shot for the theme, and I know exactly what you're talking about. I think a big part of photography is the emotional connection with the subject, so it makes perfect sense to go with what your gut tells you. There are times I post photos that are less than technically perfect (or even good), but something about them just drew me in and kept me coming back.
Yup, that's how I do it too. Once in awhile, as Carolyn said, there's one that instantly says "I'm it" and has some quality above the others but.....yeah..... not very often :)
Cheryl is so clever and witty and said it all for me! You are not crazy - far from it! I don't take that many photos to worry over but I should...some day I will.
I'm loving your minimalist week and this photo is perfect! Lately I've had a very hard time choosing the photo of the day, so I ask my husband and teenagers to help. They often choose a different photo than I do, but they tend to be spot on (like yesterday). Other than that, I go back and forth, this one or that, and delete the one I don't like as much. And so on. But sometimes you just feel it in your gut, and those moments are the best.
I like this choice! I usually choose a few shots, edit each of them and THEN wait for them to speak to me. Tonight was a good example. I had 2 cloud shots and I wanted them to make one elicit thoughts of "heaven"...the one that "won" had *more* of the feeling I wanted to share.
I know what you mean--unless I have one shot that I know I want to use as my photo of the day, I end up looking at all of them until one "speaks" to me--I totally get it!! :) great shot!
I agree with all of the above & it is very hard to choose sometimes especially when it is your only photo & you aren't an ACE member> I mostly just post stuff I like & is an account of part of my day. I love your bling Rick !!!
I like this!
I know what you mean about your photos :)
Good to hear you had a good day!
I had a great day. Bernie & I joined my brother Iain & his wife for a day out. We went to Tyangrah, near Murwillumbah just over the border in NSW, for morning tea at Gabriel's Cafe. We had lunch at a lovely park by the Tweed River at Murwillumbah. We looked through the Tweed Valley Art Gallery, then on to Natural Arch where we had a bush walk. On the way home we cooked pancakes by the side of the road on a gas stove for afternoon tea. Just a wonderful day. :)
Simple things can often be the most challenging. You would think flowers in a vase would be simple but no. Your macro of this is very clear, the light is good, and the colors are easy to look at. Very nice. A good one for the theme. :-)
Yes I know what you mean. I usually Put the pics on my computer and keep looking at them and deleting one by one the ones that I do not like as well as the next. Process of elimination I guess!
There is something so appealing about this photo, Rick. I understand why you chose it. You can almost feel the surface of the bolt - must be the lighting, the processing and the skill of the photographer. :))) Some of my photos speak to me - others are pretty neutral. I do use the process of elimination to come up with the ones I like the best. I also find that after I've looked at them one day - I come back again the next day and it's easier to choose. Funny...
Superb macro shot!! I know exactly what you mean in regards to having a photo "speak" to you. I take LOTS of shots of one subject and then I find myself scanning through them for quite some time until the photo grabs me. Sometimes I have no choice and just...settle. Again, superb macro shot Rick!
I am the same when it goes for choosing the photo - it could be the same subject but just something different about - maybe the lighting, the mood, a certain angle & then that's the one!
I know what you mean about your photos :)
