While digging through some things trying to locate a subject for tonight's photo, I came across our old Yahtzee game. Wow, that brought back some fond, old time memories. When my Wife and I were first married, we couldn't afford to do much of anything besides living from week to week, trying to make ends meet. Yahtzee became an old time favorite pastime. When the family got together, we played Yahtzee. When there was nothing else to do during the evening hours, we played Yahtzee. Sadly, how many of us have grown out of some of these old time favorite board games? Games like this allowed for good family fun, humorous interactions. The modern world of technology seems to have taken over. Not that it's a bad thing, but sometimes I think we need to intentionally set aside some of our modern technology, and bring out some of the old time favorites, and relive some of those fond memories. Another old time favorite I came across was Rack-O. Did you ever play that one? Have a great week-end.
My family loves board games. We try to have a game night whenever we can. Sometimes it's at my house and sometimes at one of my daughter's houses. We have a night of games, snacks, and plenty of laughter. Awesome pic! :0)
Yahtzee: yes, yes, yes! But, Rack-o: not familiar. We have a few table-top games that our 20-somethings enjoy. One is a dice game (Farkle) and one is a card game (Sevens). Wonderful action shot, Rick!
Great processing. Love the way the dice are spilling out.. My husband and i used to play gin rummy a lot when we were first married but I was a poor loser and he was a poor winner so we had to find another form of recreation!
I'm finding that some games are making their way back onto the dining room table again. We loved Yahtzee as a family and played it quite often. I've got to dig that out of the attic when everyone comes to visit again. My boys enjoyed Rack-O too. Love the shot- it's the essence of the game.
Oh, yes, Yahtze and Rack-o...I loved them both, but oh, I was REALLY good at Rack-o! I also loved Scrabble (Did I ever happen to mention that I was the Spelling Champ for my elementary school...I won a pen and a dictionary from the Buffalo Evening News...can you imagine a kid today getting excited over *those* prizes...probably not, but I felt like I won the lottery...I was soooo proud....EXCEPT...DUHHHHHHHH.... I *won* the spelling championship...I really didn't *need* the dictionary as much as the losers did! hahahahahaaaaaa
Wonderful nostalgic photo! When we were broke and first married, we played Yahtzee too! We also loved Sequence and Scrabble. Great subject and perspective
One more thing....when I get home I might just get out some of those board games and invite some friends over...yes, maybe I will...board games really are a lot of fun...and if I do...you get the credit for being my inspiration!
I don't think we have this kind of game here. Most of our family pre-technology bonding is made via scrabble or card games. Loving the red dice though.
I love this shot, Rick. You captured it perfectly to tell the story. I will challenge you to a game on Yahtzee one of these days. =) Love playing it too.
yahtzee is one of my favorite games--also Sorry and Trouble!! We used to have game night but unfortuamtely we got busy with athletics and other school activities.....maybe I will try to start that up again soon!! I have TONS of board games waiting to be played again!! Thanks for the reminder!! :)
@mary1440 If we ever get to your neck of the woods Mary I will definitely take you up on that challenge. I will give you fair notice so you can practice sufficiently :)
I've never heard of Rack-O, but I have played Yahtzee. As a kid, I was a bit of a board game fanatic. The first time that Bekki came to visit we bought an updated version of Monopoly (you know the one with the game calculator that manages all the money), but I have to say, the original version of Monopoly is better with the Monopoly $ money.
I have played this game many many times with my parents. Still do when I go over their house. Good times....although my Dad and I are pretty sure my Mom cheats....lol Great shot.
Oh great Game On - I love Yahtze and just the other day when unpacking found our dice and the forms, hopefully I can get himself to play a few games with me. I must check if there is a version on line like they have scrabble.
I have never heard of Rack -O may have been a British game?
Backgammon was another one we played. Chinese Checkers, and Checkers, all great board games we had in the family. Then the smarter ones also played Chess, and onto Monopoly, and all the ones that came out around that time.
We play Yahtzee with friends, but since one of the guys changed the rules we call it it Yahtsuey! Games from my past are Life, Careers, and Payday. Hmmm, I see a theme there.
Absolutely one of my favorite games, along with Scrabble, Clue and Monopoly. I love playing these types of games with my family and we certainly should do it more often.
Wonderful shot Rick.
We play a lot of games.
We have a games night at least once a month.
Have not heard of Rack-O though !
