I noticed one of the roses from one of the flower arrangements we received last week was beginning to wither around the bottom. It was still quite beautiful in spite of the withering petals, and its red color was still quite vibrant. As I played around with the processing, I decided to try some black and white, and even without color, the rose retained its beauty. It made me think about the flower itself. What makes it so beautiful? Is it only the color? Is it the fragrance that is so unique to a rose? Though all these qualities definitely contribute to its beauty, I believe it is more, the rose's design. Much of its beauty lies in how each petal is so intricately placed on top of the other to form the flower. I think that contributes most to its magnificent beauty, Are we any different? Each intricate detail of our being contributes to the whole, and that is what makes each and everyone of us special.
You're right- this photo would have been fantastic either way. The black and white is very nice and I truly agree 100% with your commentary. Perfectly written and a perfect shot!
Wow...I really love this one, because it is the layers that make us beautiful, in the same manner as a rose. And as we age, those outer layers may wrinkle or start to look worse for the wear, but it is the beautiful core that remains. This photo is a perfect symbol of that, and perhaps that is why we all love roses so much, without even realizing it.
As always Rick, you have gained many comments when you write so eloquently about the every day things in our lives. I once did a set of Photos on a Rose from Bud to end and I think it was before my time on here. But like you I loved watching the changes, and I also related it to our own human life and death. Thank you so much for using a black & white photo Rick, it is always such an honest photo I believe, as we get caught up in colour so much.
We all automatically respond to the beauty of a rose but rarely think about the elements that define Beauty. Thai you for encouraging us to be mindful and actually take the time to see the rose.
