Wow, what a trip! We made it safely to Ohio, but it was a long drive. About an hour into our trip we hit rain, and it lasted all the way out through (8 hours) until we were about a half hour from our final destiantion, Clyde, Ohio. As you can see we finally came out of the storms and headed into some clear skies. Driving the turnpike in hard rain is difficult enough, but then throw in construction, limited speed limits, narrow lanes, wow, what a long drive, pulling into my Mother-In-Law's home at about 7:20pm. She had a nice meal prepared for us. What a sweetheart she is. We had a nice beef roast, garlic potatoes, cauliflower, salad (she knows I am on my diet) and then she had a wonderful caramel apple pie. It looked great, but no, I did not have a piece. She felt bad tempting me, but I assured her I would survive with a banana. Ok, it was off to bed at 9:30pm (I was beat. I know I am a pansy. Thought I'd say it before Nikkers does) I slept till 8:30 this morning. Had a banging headache due to lack of caffeine. Fixed that with a trip to the conveneience store. I will try my best to catch up on comments, but I am not sure how oftenb I will be able to hit McDonals in between my Wife's list of things she wants to do. Gotta keep Momma happy :)
Beautiful road photo! I love the light in the distance. No need to comment while away, Rick. You put everyone to shame, so it's OK to take some time off if you need to. Now, if you need an escape, then go for it! :-)
This is an amazing shot of the clear sky framed by the bridge ...a complete contrast to the dark rainy stuff you had travelled through !! The saying '''the light at the end of the tunnel '' springs to mind !! Glad you arrived safe & sound !
Great edge of the storm shot. I know what that's like having driven through rain on and off all the way home from Michigan. It's a great feeling when you see the break between the clouds and clear sky. Glad you're safe and now have time to enjoy family. Don't worry about us- we'll leave the light on.
Bless your heart, Rick, you're a trooper driving that far on a rainy day! I guess, once underway, you don't have a lot of choice! Wishing you sunny skies for your visit...it sounds as though you were well welcomed!
How beautiful to drive into that light..well you and I know now how tiring it is with heavy traffic, detours for us an rain as well..was so glad to be home. nice of your Mother-in-Law to greet you all with such a nice dinner. enjoy your stay..
I used to hate those long traffic-filled turnpike drives back to visit family in Connecticut. Some things you just have to endure to get to the prize at the end of the journey. You have captured a beautiful and scary moment on the road. (Driving AND taking pictures; Now that is multitasking)
@Weezilou Louise, my Son drove part of the way, but his driving is a bit faster than I am accustomed to so I was a bit stressed in the rain. I believe he was finally glad to give back the wheel after hearing Dad remind him of the brake lights on the car he was fast approaching. He drove for about 2 hours. It was a big help.
@olivetreeann Thank you Ann. It is a bit of a hastle not having internet access, so I have made two brief trips to McDonalds. On Thursday when we arrive back in Pittsburgh, we will have motel wi-fi so I should be able to catch up a bit. My Wife was joking with me, "How are you doing not being able to be on 365?" It is tough. I have not missed a day in the 1 1/2 years I've been on here, so I guess if I fall short of commenting this time you will all forgive me?
@digitalrn I'm impressed that you haven't missed a note on 365 in all that time! Give yourself a break and enjoy your family! We'll be waiting for you when you return...just get your daily picture for us!
I don't envy you that long drive in the rain and construction. Glad you made it safely and so nice of your Mother In Law to have a nice supper waiting for you.
What a horrid 8 hours but out of the darkness comes the light and the beauty of that light is not lost on us. Great M I L
sounds like a wonderful meal too.
