So That's The Culprit by digitalrn

So That's The Culprit

Went to the eye doctor yesterday to have my eyes examined and to order a new pair of glasses. I found out it was almost 4 years since my last exam. That's why I was having a little difficulty focusing at times, duh! Anyway, my eyes checked out fine, except for some irritation under my eye lids she said. Most likely due to the high pollen this year. My eyes have been itching quite a bit this year. When I looked at this macro shot of a flower out back, I realized why. Look at that pollen, and that is just one flower. Anyway, wasn't it just a great weekend? It was fun. I was able to get some things done around the house, then was lazy the rest of the time, just resting up, waiting for my vacation to start on Friday. This evening Josie and I went out for a quick bite to eat. We had fresh baked peach oatmeal (breakfast like that is good anytime) and then later I had some succulent, sweet strawberries. Since I've been doing my monthly weight loss challenge, I've learned to eat a lot of different things. Oatmeal and fruit were some of the things I ate very little of, but now it has become a normal part of my diet. On June 20th it will be one full year since beginning my challenge, and to date I have lost a total of 74 pounds. It has been a total life change for me, and I hope a good one. Have a wonderful evening.
Beautifully composed

Great macro

Doesn't look like you have any eye problems in this beautiful photo. Beautiful b&w :-)

Incredible macro! The composition and detail is beautiful!

Gorgeous macro and love the b&w! Hate to say it, but that pollen really looks beautiful on the petals. Well, anyway, congrats on the weight loss. They say that it helps with everything like diabetes, high blood presssure, heart, etc. Oatmeal sounds good to me. :)

Nicely done, Rick! I, too, wondered about my vision when it seemed there were a lot of pictures that were out of focus. I rectified the problem by adjusting the diopter on my camera (I think that's what it's called) just a tad and, low and behold, my pictures are generally more focused (when I want them to be). And....congratulations on the healthy eating plan, thus resulting in weight loss! Keep up the good work!

nicely done (both the photo and healthy eating)

Gorgeous Rick. Congratulations on your life changes and weight loss. Taking care of yourself can be challenging...but you are doing a great job.

Beautiful macro!

I am so impressed, Rick! 74 pounds is quite an accomplishment. Youbarebright, you have to make a life change, not just go on a diet. Have you reached your goal? Do we see a before & after picture?
June 11th, 2012
Awesome macro!! Wow!! 74 lbs?! Very admirable, Rick...good for you!!
June 11th, 2012
@nikkers But twice as wretched LOL
June 11th, 2012
@allie912 Alliosn. I am almost there, perhaps another 10 - 12 pounds. the last few pounds are the hardest, and one of these days I will pull out a before, and then post a current.

First of all, WOW! That's an amazing amount of weight to lose. Good for you. As for the pollen. This year kicked my butt with allergies. I was taking Zyrtec AND Singular - not at the same time - just to keep up! Hope your eyes feel better soon. Did you get some drops that will help?
June 11th, 2012
Oh, and beautiful picture by the way.
June 11th, 2012
What a great picture! Say have you tried oatmeal with cranberries cooked into it? I have it every morning and it tastes delicious! The berries give it that sweet/tart taste where you don't need the honey. :D
June 11th, 2012
Wow 74 pounds! Congratulations! That is some achievement. I bet you feel a whole lot better too. The pollen has been getting to me too this year for the first time in 55 years. What's with these allergies starting in our 50's! :)

@nana No drops if I can help it. Eye drops drive me nuts. I hat to have drops put in my eyes. You ought to see the eye doctor trying to get me to keep my eyes open for drops and to get real close to my eye for the exam, LOL. For some reason my eyes water just thinking about it. Give me an injection any time over eye drops. She told me the easiest thing is cool compresses, and I shoudl be thankful my tear ducts are working fine, so no drops for dry eyes Yeah!

i love the use of b&w
June 11th, 2012
GREAT photo and great story - well done on your weight challenge! I'm sure you'll feel better for it!
June 11th, 2012
That's a lot to lose!! I used to get hay-fever from the pollen when I was young but seems OK now. Can see how it could affect you with that much pollen
June 11th, 2012
awesome macro ! Congratulations on losing so much weight. You must feel like a new man !
June 11th, 2012
lovely pollen - and without that pollen we wouldn't have the wonderful fruit and oatmeal either
June 11th, 2012
You have done so well with your weight loss Rick & you are enjoying healthy things like fruit & oatmeal so must be good !!! I can see why those little blighters can cause eye irritation when you look close like that !
June 11th, 2012
Congrats on your weight loss :D beautiful macro.
June 11th, 2012
Beautiful macro, Rick. Glad your eyes are ok. I have glasses for short distances which I don't carry around. When I take shots I always see them blurred on my camera screen and when at home with my glasses on I take a sigh of relief.
June 11th, 2012
Oooo... fabulous detail!
June 11th, 2012
Wonderful macro- now I know why I can't seem to keep my breathing passages clear! Congratulations on your success with weight loss!
June 11th, 2012
First off...with the b&W edit it sort of made me think it was sprinkled with sugar :-) And congrats on sticking with your weight loss challenge...wow...you have done amazingly well...sorry I have not been on 365 of late so have not been keeping up with people's personal stories.
June 11th, 2012
There is so much to like about this shot! That's why. Had to fav it! Love the company the b and w! I had same issue with worsening eyes and focus...still to sure I got my diopter adjusted right even. Now...there are three steps on it that look focused about the same for me.
June 11th, 2012
That picture is scary! No wonder we are all sneezing. And wow! You did have a great weekend, relaxing, that's the best part and with your pretty bride. I love it!
June 11th, 2012
except for the pollen part, great pic and stories to go with it. you've covered a lot of ground in the last year. good for you!
June 11th, 2012
Congrats for sticking it out..almost one year and 74 lbs to show for..
you were smart to lose it slowly.
your photo show how much pollen is coming off the flower..I used to have hay fever but after taking shots is went away and has never returned..
June 11th, 2012
Wow. Well done on the weight loss. Now, to maintain it, unless you're still planning on losing some more.
June 11th, 2012
thats why my eyes are itchy - great capture
June 11th, 2012
Nice story, Rick. That's a monumental amount of weight to have lost in one year. Great job, and I have the feeling, you'll keep it off with your sensible new eating patterns. Your macro shot of the pollen is a wondrous sight! Who knew?
June 11th, 2012
74 pounds?!!! Wow! Well done!
June 12th, 2012
@digitalrn - That's funny. I love eye drops - except when they sting. My husband says that none of his patients react to eye drops as negatively as I do (this would be the stinging kind.) I tell him it's because they aren't married to him and they're trying to put on a brave front. :)
June 12th, 2012
Wow, so much to comment on here. First of all, this macro b&w is awesome. That pollen is so visible, that it's no wonder your eyes are scratchy. I've been having alot of vision problems in the past year and need to get to the eye doctor myself. I think the focus on my photos would improve. Second, wow, 74 pounds!!! I remember when you began that journey and I'm very proud of you for doing so well. I hope you and Josie have a wonderful vacation together!
June 12th, 2012
Congrats on your weight loss Rick. I remember the time when I didn't need glasses, and now....can't see without them. It is amazing how clear the world seems when you have just the right prescription.
June 12th, 2012
very cool and vintage!
June 13th, 2012
Great full frame shot!! It has been YEARS since I had my eyes checked :S Whoops!
June 13th, 2012
Congrats on your challenge and the weight loss! It's hard work and you did it!
June 14th, 2012
A most excellent close-up, Rick! Love it in b&w, too. :-)
June 14th, 2012
I'm just catching up now. Big congrats on the weight loss Rick. Such an accomplishment. You must be feeling good! I've been diagnosed with a very rare eye condition so I know all about wanting to see clearly. I actually go to the hospital every 6 months for ultrasounds on my eyes to verify the condition is not progressing.
June 14th, 2012
well rick WHat an accomplishment to lose weight - wow - wow - wow - the detail you were able to capture in this - i really love the b&w - you have a wonderful - talented "eye" for emotion in your work!
June 16th, 2012
This is a beautiful shot Rick. So glad you have gotten to the bottom of your eye troubles....
Amazing weight loss, congrautulations!! You are a real inspiration and well done for sticking with it.... sadly that is my downfall.... just don't seem to stick with weight loss... if I have a bad day then I graze... or if I am in a mega rush just grab something to give me a (sugar) energy rush... all very bad and not at all good for me!!
Keep up the good work and enjoy your vacation!! ♥
