Syroco Box by digitalrn

Syroco Box

As most of you know, I enjoy collecting things. I recently bought this little Syroco trinket box off Ebay. Actually I think it's a cigarette or card box. Back in 1890 a European immigrant woodcarver founded the Syracuse Ornamental Co. and began creating some hand carved items. Later in the 1930's or 40's they changed their name to Syroco Inc. They created hand carved items consisting of cigarette boxes, pipe racks, ash trays, figurines, etc. I have an old Indian head Syroco ash tray that belonged to my Grandfather., but I am not sure where I have it stashed. One of these days I must dig it out. I have my eye on a few more that I might purchase. They make neat little keepsake boxes. This one only measures about 7 inches x 4 inches. I love the detail.

That's interesting. It would be an excellent subject for a drawing class. The perspective is challenging enough to keep the students on their toes.
