This little family plot is tucked away in the middle of this field, usually only visble after the corn has been cut. It sits a nice distance off the road, and not real accessible, but one day I would love to explore its history and lineage.
You know you've found an old one with a great deal of history when you find them stuck in the middle of a field- long before codes required people to be buried in certain places. When you went "to rest with your fathers" it really meant you were with others in your family that went before you, on the land you had toiled upon. Nice capture Rick!
A family plot in the middle of a corn field is very intriguing! Does that mean that there used to be a farmhouse nearby that is now gone? Obviously this was not always a corn field. I'm interested in the history of this too.
We call them (or used to anyway) "Plots" also. Don't cemeteries just beg to be explored and researched? Over my X mas holiday, my brother, his kids, and I went to my mom's hometown, her elem. school and the town cemetery is up on the hill next to the school. It has mainly only about 5 or 6 family names....and one of them is my mom's maiden name. It is weird to see it all over the little plot.
love the trees and the pink and blue sky
