We pulled the kids out of school to go on the trip, so to help justify their time away from school, we had to arrange some sort of educational experience. On this day, Wednesday September 25th we visited the Wright Brother's Museum in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. They enjoyed the tour, and we told them they would be quizzed after the tour was over.
This was totally on my Bucket List, Rick! How anyone can go here and not be inspired is beyond me! I bought a $3 print of that famous photo and spent about $70 framing it for our family room. Those brothers persevered through incorrect calculations and a belief in what they believed possible. It is truly astonishing to consider how far "flight" progressed in so little time, landing humans on the moon in 1969, fewer than 62 years after the first sustained powered flight at Kitty Hawk. In December. You did well, my friend, exposing these kids to this monumental achievement that makes *so* much possible.

@rhoing I agree with you Thom, they accomplished so much for mankind. We take it for granted, but when you look at where they started and where we are today, it is mind boggling. The kids enjoyed it.
My family moved a number of times when I was growing up, so I missed a great deal of classroom time. They did for us just what you're doing here! And I'll tell you, those experiences visiting sites such as this are the things I remember well...and I never did enjoy mat anyway!

My daughter Cathy stayed at Kitty Hawk when she was 16 Rick & I always remember the photos of beautiful silvery grey houses on stilts, they actually stayed in one of them, I really thought she was so lucky but she was homesick the whole time....what a waste!!!
If I ever get to North Carolina that is one place I would definitely like to visit. how exciting for the children to see it..they will remember this for a lifetime.
@sarasdadandmom Well that is interesting. They really brought the world a long way when they perfected flight. Walking through the museum (New Addition on future flight) it is exciting to see where we are going to be in the years ahead, and not that far either.
