Here are two more things that still remain in our homestead. The downstairs bathroom I am repainting used to be my Grandmother's laundry room. It has a separate door that leads to the back porch but we do not use it. Back in the day Grandma used that side door to come and go with her laundry to hang out back on the wash line. If you are old enough you remember the old ringer washers, and the double rinse tubs. Well the first photo shows an old floor drain. Grandma would roll the washer and rinse tubs over to the drain and extend the hoses from the washing machine and the rinse tubs into this drain, and away she went. It is still a useable drain but we do not use it. The second photo is an old style lock that is on the old wooden storm door leading from the laundry room (Currently a bathroom) to the back porch. It works, so I couldn't get rid of it either.
I grew up on a farm with a spring that ran dry every summer. My mother (Beverly from Vermont) washed our clothes on a wringer washer in the late 1970's to save water. I still remember the order: sheets and towels first, then whites, darks, and finally my father's barn clothes because they were the dirtiest. This brings back fond memories for me, and we never get rid of something that still works.
For the memories alone these remnant along worth keeping. reading the stories behind them brought back some old memories and I like that about 365 as well.
