This is an older photo of Kiko but our boys will be 13 years old in October. Kiko has unfortunately developed some health issues in the past few weeks. He started coughing and when I listened to his lungs I could hear fluid so I knew what the possible diagnosis would be. We took him to the Vet and I was right. He had developed early stages of congestive heart failure. He has an enlarged heart, and enlarged liver and had accumulated some excess fluid. He has not been himself lately so I knew he wasn't feeling well. He is now on Lasix for the fluid and Enalapril for his heart. It has helped a little but as a nurse I know it will only get worse so we will watch him and make sure he does not suffer. We cannot allow that. It will be a tough but loving decision to make.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Kiko- I hope he's resting comfortably now with the medication. It is difficult- 13 years is a long time! You'll be in my thoughts!
