Aaaaand I just read that article and it's so inspiring! Thanks for posting! (I'm so pleased that the lead photo was shot in my city - too bad it was during the silly hockey riots, but still....)
I love photography for all of the reasons he listed... I believe that taking the photo is the important thing not trying to take a perfect photo but capturing the moment.
I get really annoyed when people say to me you must be a good photographer because you have a good camera... I have a Canon 550D, yes it is better than an iPhone or a point and shoot but there are better cameras... but a chef doesn't get told they are a good chef because you have a good stove...
I love photograpy and this project has made me realise how much...
@paulaag Not a set up, but the press made it sound like the photographer just happened across this couple lying in the street during a riot making out. In reality she had just been knocked down by riot police (unintentionally) and was lying there crying. Her boyfriend was making sure she was okay and calming her down before helping her up. He spoke with her briefly and gave her a kiss while she collected herself. Still romantic, but not bizarrely so.
@pwallis , that is the story that i originally heard and i like it and am glad that is what happened! it's a pretty cool story and shot! wouldn't you have loved to have been the photographer?!?!
@paulaag Yeah, I took a wander down there (it's blocks away from my apt), but as soon as the riots started I got out of there. The presence of so many cameras seemed to be encouraging the rioters idiotic behavior!
D@mn me, I would have never thought I had an ounce of negativity about photography. After reading that article I realize I do. Humbling.
Thank you for sharing, terrific and enlightening article.
@lilbudhha Hee hee, we all have something to confess I'm sure. But I love the idea of embracing even the things that are maddening, and celebrating it all.
@frameit Love what you had to say here! "chef doesn't get told they are a good chef because you have a good stove... " It's tool, a chef may have his preferred knife roll, but it is a gift for putting the ingredients and flavor together, much as photographers do I think!
