its an old topic, search the threads you'll see loads of discussions on it, to summerise past discussions - in public you're free to photograph unless they think you're planning a terrorist attack (UK rules) in which case they can haul you in.

Funny how the cops go quiet when they act illegally

Though the guy needs to grow a pair and stand up for himself a bit

Any Police Officer that asks you to delete your pictures is potentially breaking the law.

That particular story is 4 years old, sadly, however, such harassment is still common.
