@justjim the 'gurus' here have advised in the past that the compression applied once the images are uploaded would suggest it is preferable to resize to a maximum of 2000 pixels on the longest size of your image & this will provide the maximum quality for the 365 site. I now resize my images to 2000 pixels max. You could use 1000 px if you were worried about the possibility of your images being used for nefarious purposes! ;)
But as Peter says, there are no 'rules', so any size that suits you is OK - but resizing will also reduce the upload time. I think ACE accounts have a 10 meg image limit, but it might be a little more.
I resize all my images here to 72 res and 680 on the long side. Then if anyone wants to use for anything (who knows why they would want any of my pictures) it would be impossible.
It seems like in order to have your photo display larger (when you click the magnifying glass) it needs to be at least 1024 pixels long or tall so I resize my pictures to 1026 pixels on the long side (and if anyone steals my picture I will be flattered.... ;-)
