I think Brian had a photo of a bird with a deformed beak? Or maybe it was another superb bird capturer! In any event, this article from Cornell was interesting.
Thank you for the great research,the nuthatch is a daily visitor and seems to be well adapted.I'll be watching the juveniles more closely now.I will use this link with my update pics.
Parrots in Australia have a terrible disease called Beak and Feather disease. Their beaks overgrow like the above Nuthatch, but they also gradually loose all their feathers, so as well has having trouble eating, they loose any insulation to the weather. Towards the end they look shocking :(
