How to Win:
Share your images of the best sites, scenes and subjects that our 50 states have to offer. Upload your photos and geotag the coordinates to be entered for a chance to win the $3,000 grand prize.
About AERIAL AMERICA PHOTO CONTEST
Contest Dates: June 20, 2011 – September 30, 2011
As our aerial film crew flies across the country to film America from above, we’re asking you to share the best images of your state from the ground. Upload your original photo and geotag the photo location coordinates for consideration in the following contest categories:
Landscape - Images capturing the beauty of the local landscapes, from sprawling hillsides to city skylines.
Locals - Images capturing the culture and the flair of the local people within a state.
Architecture - From iconic landmarks to century- old barns, some of America’s crowning achievements are found in the architecture we’ve constructed.
Food - There are few things more telling of a region than its signature dish!
Nature&Animals - Images of everything from native wildlife to beloved pets, from backyard gardens to our country’s great forests.
There is a limit of up to two (2) Entries per person per category; a maximum of ten (10) Entries per qualified entrant overall.
*Note: Entries that are not geotagged will not be considered. It is important that your image be geotagged in order to qualify as an entry in this contest.
PRIZES AND JUDGING:
A Judging Panel selected by Smithsonian Channel will select 50 semi-finalists, 5 finalists (one per category) and one Grand Prize Winner.
Weekly Spotlight
Periodically during the Contest Period, Smithsonian Channel will select a qualified entry as the “Weekly Spotlight” photo. The “spotlight” photo will be showcased across multiple Smithsonian Channel digital platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Being selected as a Weekly Spotlight photo will have no bearing on whether or not the photo advances to a prize round.

The Smithsonian Channel original series Aerial America is a thrilling journey across America. The remarkable series, which is shot from a helicopter equipped with a state-of-the-art Cineflex HD camera system, will be visiting all 50 states to shoot the beauty and splendor that makes up our country. The filming is part of one of the most expansive aerial television series ever produced.
