I was wondering how people generally find out about photo competitions (other than on this website). Do you normally Google it, hear about one by word-of-mouth, or is there a website that has information about various photo contests?

I belong to my local photography club (70 active members). We meet once a month and those within the group know about all competitions. If you can connect to one in your area it would be most helpful. They have helped me in more ways than I imagined. Helping with proper procedures for entering competitions; renting galleries as a group to display our work, as a group; the professionals in the group conduct classes and want to help everyone get better. Plus our club has a monthly challenge - one being Rectangles, Triangles And Squares. Each member votes on the first, second and third photo by slipping voting tickets under the photos on the tables. The top three win ribbons, and have their names with photos published in the newspaper. Since I'm new to so much of this it has been invaluable to me.
