New Lytro Camera

After reading about it on twitter and watching the following YouTube video, I was enthusiastic enough to pre-order one of these innovative cameras:

Maybe the true artists will think this is cheating. I think it looks like fun.

Very interesting. Not quite for me (mostly price). I am hearing that this will be the new thing. Cameras without gears and flipping mirrors. I am hearing that DSLRs will be mostly obsolete in the next 5-6 years as this type of technology takes hold. In the mean time I will continue to work with what I have and still want a few more extras for the body I already have.

Heard about this, really innovative and cool sounding! I hope I can get to use one when it comes out. When you get it, be sure to post results @allie912 !

I am thoroughly interested!!! I would completely consider ordering one but:

1) That is a lot of money which I don't have right now.

and

2) I really want a chance to play with one before buying.

I know they have a "tour" scheduled so you can see them and I think they have one coming up in SF. I may just have to plan to go see it!

@autumnseden Shipping will be sometime in April or May, and I won't be billed til it ships. Who knows--I might win the lottery by then!

@allie912 If I can see it in action before then, I will more than likely preorder but I really want to see it first. =)

Wow, interesting! Seems pretty neat! I wouldn't call it cheating. Just a new tool for photography.

@shuterfly I really hope dslr's won't be obsolete in 5-6 years. I love my camera! lol

I'd like to see as a new tool for artists, but in reality it's simply going to make photographers obsolete. Photography will no longer be about skill or composition which is too bad. Guess I better start looking for a new job now. lol

mac only software, 50 mb images, the Lytro image format is not web friendly so they will need to be saved as jpeg or png or other extension before publishing.

Photographers will never be obsolete... not if clients want a well composed shot. Besides, you can give a fauxtog the best Hasselblad on the market and they will still give you crap pictures until they learn what makes a good photo.
