Colours

I've just figured out the best colour management to save to for web is sRGB. I had found my colours on here were faded compared to what I had on my PC.

Now what I want to know is what is the best for printing? Is it Prophoto or Adobephoto or am I missing something else? I notice my printed photos are duller than on my pc and I have calibrated it to the best of my ability although would love to get my hands on spyder but can't have it all. It's not a tiny difference, it's a major difference in brightness etc.

I either print with sRGB or AdobeRGB. I have a calibrated monitor (Spyder 3). I usually use a cheap lab like Walmart for prints, and find that the prints are pretty darn close to my monitor.

What Heidi said. :) I then get my prints done at my local camera shop, when I do them, and I've had excellent results. I've had decidedly less excellent results with Walgreens, but YMMV.

I use sRGB for web copies & AdobeRGB for prints. The colour space is much larger in AdobeRGB, so they should look much better when printed.

Just playing about at the mo and I've saved an image as adobeRGB then printed it as adobeRGB. I've found that printing at adobe RGB is the best colourmanagement but the image is still a little dark. The colours are more vibrant though which I'm happy about. The sea though isn't as bright so hard to see the waves unless I take the print into my kitchen where the light is brighter and I see it better but still a little dark.

Here is the photo I'm playing with http://www.flickr.com/photos/kirstymclaughlan/6642852001/in/photostream

Try a professional printing company, they will help you calibrate to get the best possible picture. Millers is cheap, WHCC is amazing though crappy customer service, I use prodpi with flawless results.

Think I've sussed it to the best of my capabilities. Printed off loads of one image so need to test others but as long as I've saved the image in adobergb and printing on adobergb and the paper I have I'm using everyday semi gloss ( I was given it so had to get a few prints to figure which to use). It seems to come out the way I want now. Still a little darker but you can now see the detail better. Now going to try a few other images to see how they work out but will probably have to re-edit them all to adobergb now.

Make certain your camera is set to Adobe and not sRGB or the image will be limited from the start. (Does not apply to shooting in RAW)

@lilbudhha Oh thanks for that. Something I was scared to touch, I've now changed it to adobe.
