Its been a while since i've been an active member of the forum! I used to be... very!
Towards the end of last year things slowed down on the photography front of my life and went full speed ahead in other department! I did manage to get all bar 10 photos done for last year...
This year, i've not started... yet...
Considering starting back in feb, but not sure...
How did you find the motivation for your 2nd year...??
I think it became a habit, and I have a bit of an addictive personality. :) I just couldn't walk away. I love the interaction with the community - that is a lot of what keeps me shooting and posting specifically to the project. I hope you'll decide to start up again!
I have been pretty motivated the last month because I think the rest of my life slowed down so I have more time. I also have decided to work on themes, a new must try list each week and working on exploring one subject a bit deeper.
I don't feel as much pressure as I did last year and I really enjoy looking at the photos of the people that I follow. Paula B. @brumbe did the hard work of coming up with a list of themes to try each week.
I'm in my third year now and still going. at time its hard to think of something interesting...I take a lot of pictures from inside out..meaning in the winter when its so cold I take pitures of sunrises, sunsets, snow, birds, squirrels through a window.
my camera goes wherever I go..that help too.
365 has become a habit for me. In addition, I am exploring different aspects this year, such as selective coloring. I did minimal editing last year. I feel freer to break "the rules" and that has unleashed a bit more creativity. I am feeling less pressured that I did last year.
I started out my second year thinking I was going to take a break, but couldn't...it was such a habit. Then, I started to lose motivation in the every day thing and I hate to admit I've resorted to fillers, but they are all shots I love. One way I've tried to stay motivated is taking shots I've done previously (and never posted) and just re-editing them to give them new life. I've also been doing a lot of photo shoots with friends lately, which has helped. Good luck!
I just love seeing the photos of others and when I take a good one love to share. It's more the interaction than the photos this year. And my growth, as well. I like Tina's idea of re-editing old photos ... I could definitely try that too. I always take way more than I post :)
I would like to ditto everything that @sdpace said plus I feel so much less pressure than I did last year and I now don't feel compelled to post photos taken "on that day".
I am getting ready to start my 3rd year and I have also learned to relax and just post what I can, when I can. January is so busy for me that it becomes almost entirely a month of fillers. My choices are to use fillers or quit. I like it too much here to quit so I just continue to follow my own rules and make sure I don't enter a shot into a theme unless it does follow the rules. =)
I'm cheating in a massive way but it is also a personal challenge. All of my Year 2 shots have already been taken. All taken during a 3 year period of my life in Papua New Guinea. I have 26,000 photographs from my three years in which to find 365 stories. Hopefully all taken on or close to the respective dates.
I'm in year 2 and at first I was gung ho because it has become such a part of my life, then started to question. My sister joined me this year so that gives me some more motivation to keep going. And I feel like I learned a ton last year, but there is more to experiment with and I want to really find my voice as a photographer. I also want to improve my people photo skills, I would love to take great pictures of my kiddos, so I want to focus on that. This year is for ME! I joined a 52 week challenge (one picture a week) on another site, and they have a theme each week, so that gives me extra inspiration too.
I gave myself permission to use fillers and not feel pressurised to take a photo everyday but so far I haven't been able to get out of the daily photo routine
I used about 40 fillers early on in my year 1 when I didn't really know what I was doing so my inspiration for year 2 was to do a whole year of a photo--day every day.
I'm still learning, my goal for this year is to improve my skils and knowledge on the Photoshop front. if I get a photo every day fine and if I don't then thats fine too :)
