I have held out for a long time as a strictly point and shoot guy. However, after listening to so many threads here and studying the facts, weighing out pros and cons, etc., I surrender. Today, I am joining the DSLR team with my very first one. I purchased a Canon Rebel T2i (EOS 550D). It came with an 18-55mm lense plus another one that is 75-300mm. I felt overwhelmed just getting it out of the box! I bought this same camera for my daughter about 2 months ago and have been watching what she does and trying to learn from her. So I decided to take the plunge and I am eager to learn. So...here it goes! Oh, by the way, my Sony H55 will still remain on my belt at all times! :)
I have a dslr and absolutely love it!! I've never had a point and shoot so dont know super well how they compare, but I know you'll love that Canon! You chose a great one too. Oh and I have those two lenses too!! well, I'm pretty sure. I think the zoom lens will reaaally come in handy.
Awesome, congrats!! I love my Canon DSLR but I also love my Canon P&S. I'm taking part in the P&S Challenge so today through the 11th all my shots will be with my Canon A530.
your lucky:)! im usuing a point and shoot right now and im trying to decide to get a fujifilm finepix s1800 (a better quality digital camera) or ust give in and spend the money on a DSLR
congratulations Michael.... my 2 cents worth is even if you're on holiday, take your P&S and put it in your pocket. There'll still be numerous times when you're walking around and NEED to take that instant snap and you wont have your DSLR out. Enjoy learning the new camera mate
Way to go! I have that same camera as well, and absolutely love it. I had Nikon before, and I was apprehensive to switch but I'm so glad I did - I love my T2i! Another lens that is a great one to have is a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Pretty inexpensive and produces amazing shots. It's also really lightweight, so it's great to have on for hauling the camera around...I rarely (never) use my p/s, except for the challenge this week, that is.
Welcome to the dark side! ;-) I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with the DSLR! I'm currently saving up to replace my 7-year-old Rebel, and the T2i is one of the cameras I'm considering. Good choice!
congrats, that is the camera i initialy wanted! but then went with Nikon D90, looking forward to hearing about your progress because i would love to still try that camera out in future as I work towards a canon 5D!!!! ;o)
You won't be sorry. But hold on to that p/s! I have found I like my dslr when I'm not in a hurry and I can really take my time with a subject, try a different lens, etc. But when you're in a hurry, a p/s is always pretty awesome too!
I just made the jump from p&s to dslr and am really enjoying learning all that the world of slr has to offer. Mine only came with the 18-55mm lens, and i'm eager to get a 70-300mm lens. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
It's a great camera! But in that price range I would have gone for the Canon 50D... it doesn't have camcorder facilities but it does take slightly better photos...
Thanks for all of your positive comments. After much research and studying reviews, this camera was touted as the best that Canon currently has in this price range which bridges from entry-level to pro-sumer status. With full 1080 HD video and slow motion too, it is hard to beat. I love it! :)

I guess I'll have to play around with my p & s until i get enough money!
