After several months of playing around with pictures here and taking lots of other kinds of pictures for my facebook pages, it sounds like I may be a regular on our city's online news website. http://www.shorelineareanews.com/
I have already been published on this site several months ago when my husband and I took pictures while on our local garden tour. I understand our pictures were the only ones available, so they requested a couple from both of us.
I sent a link to my *E* is for Echo Lake to the community website asking if they would like to have a copy for the community records. They said yes and asked if they could use more of my pictures.
I may not get paid for this but I take a lot of pictures around this city and am happy to share them. I am thinking about making postcards to sell here also. Another thing that I am considering is getting a few printed up for display at our city hall. I can put a price on them and see if they will sell while on display. Even if they don't people are still looking at them and this is just what I want. Eventually, I will make money.
So far I've had 4 images published that I know of. I even got paid for one of them. I think the one I'm most proud of is a food picture that was used in a brain study at the University of Colorado. No compensation or even recognition, but I liked that I was able to help, in some way, with a research project to learn more about the brain.
@hammster --- I remember that. It was on cookinglight.com's bulletin board that you told us. That was exciting to hear. It is quite energizing when someone that is not our friend or family notices our work.
yeah for you!! congrats- very exciting :) I can't wait for the day I have something published somewhere, other then the picture of the cheer squad I took for the fall sports program where they don't mention the photographers name.
@icywarm --- I never needed an excuse to take pictures. I take lots of pictures. This though does encourage me to keep taking pictures and to keep doing what I love only now I can share them outside of my family and friends. :-)
I've submitted about a dozen photos, some of which are here. They are now published as per this email.
"Thank you so much for your recent photo submission. I just wanted to let you know that we now have a slideshow of resident submitted photos running on our government access channel (Comcast channel 21 and Verizon channel 37) and your work is included. The slideshow runs between council meeting and public service announcement videos."
Now, I have graciously said I would send them pictures from time to time. However I have not given them exclusive rights to everything. They require an authorization form to filled out when they are uploaded. Which is good for me. I have told them to give me a heads-up on what they may be looking for when we do our photowalks and I would see about getting something for them. I haven't yet been approached to do a series of picture but if I do I will ask for payment as it won't be just for me anymore. ACK!!!! Now, I have to start thinking about pricing. Where do I go for information?

Congratulations!
Even though it's something small, it's your first big step to being up there!
Congratulations again!
