My son is doing well

November 12th, 2010
It has been a while since I wrote anything about my son and a number of you have emailed to ask how he is doing. We went home for a week after he was moved from the ICU to his own room, returning to CA on the 4th of this month. He is doing very well. The cardiac team and the LVAD team say his heart, especially the left side, has shown remarkable recovery. They say that in three to six months they will remove the LVAD pump and he will be able to return to normal. This is truly amazing. From where he was a month when he was on life support to now where he is walking around. The only reason he is still in the hospital is because of the problem with his arm. He has two surgeries on it so far to remove some dead muscle and for the next week will now undergo intensive therapy to try to give him almost normal function. Being a composer it has been a very real concern for him and has caused him to become depressed at times. But he knows where he was a month ago and is thankful to be alive. If all goes well he will be home on the 23rd, in time for Thanksgiving. We will stay another two weeks beyond that to help around the house. Again, I would like to thank everyone for their concern, their good thoughts and their prayers.

As for photography; I haven't taken a picture in a long time and just don't have the desire to right now. Every time we had visited out here my son and I would always go for a photo walk, either in the city or in some of the parks in the area. Not having him available to do that has minimized my desire to do it alone. So, I probably am done with this project. It had been a wonderful experience up until the beginning of October and then the outpouring of love from all of you made it an even more amazing experience. I won't soon forget it.

Oh, Ray. Thank you so much for taking the time to appraise us of your son's condition. It's so wonderful to hear that he is doing better and especially, that he will most likely be home in time to spend Thanksgiving with the family. It has been a pleasure to share photos with you over this last year, but I can surely understand why you feel like moving on. I will continue to say a prayer for your son's continued recovery. Please take care of yourself, drop in now and then to say hi. *hugs*

So glad to hear from you and to share the good news. Am delighted and will continue to pray. Photographs would be far from my thoughts at a time like this.... you'll know when you want to start shooting again. Meanwhile, thinking of you all. God bless.

So glad that he is doing well so far and making progress! Thank you so much for updating us.

I look forward to the day when you feel like you want to photograph.

Right now I have a very good friend who is losing her battle with leukemia and I mostly feel sad right now so I totally understand.

Continued thoughts and prayers for his full recovery.

I am so glad to hear of his recovery! I had been wondering how things were going. May he enjoy good health from here on out and may you enjoy peace. My mother-in-law still reminds me of how swollen (& bad ... lol!) I looked after my double mastectomy & tells me how it has given her strength to go through her on health issues. Life is precious ... enjoy it! If 365 doesn't fit into your life right now, that's ok. Love your son & family.
