To clean a camera.....

December 29th, 2010
I have an "old" Nikon D50, but for some time now it has been reluctant to stay in focus. Today I took it to my local camera doctor and he told me the camera house, and also the lenses, were so dirty, they all needed to be cleaned professionally. Which will cost a lot of money. Or I could upgrade to a Nikon D90, which of course will cost even more.
Now I need your advice. is it possible to clean the camera myself? Shall I do it professionally. Or shall I "simply" upgrade to a Nikon D90?

Hi Britt-Arnhild, The sensor seems to be do-able (another site to try http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=Tutorials )

...but the lens less so. I can't find any good self help available as yet. I'll try a little more tomorrow.

@ellida Thanks Graham. It looks a bit difficult though. I might have it done professionally......

Well i have some dust in mine showing up on photos of the sky/clouds. I watched a video and thought it looked easy enough. so went and got a blower bulb with a hepa filter on it. All it did is move the dust around. I did not want to try actually touching the sensor, so this morning i took my Canon to the pros. They told me they do NOT recommend using the blower bulbs, even with the filter. They should be done cleaning my camera in one business day. I can't wait to get her back, im missing her already. :) Good luck to you and your camera.
