make your own book...

December 30th, 2010
@louisewilson4 has introduced me to this website which allows you to make a "book" of your work. The results are fantastic. Maybe i'm turning into a 365 geek but I have decided that since i'm putting all my hard work and efforts for a year into producing all these photos, it'd be nice to have a memory of it in years to come and share it with friends and family. For those that are interested the website is link

I'm currently putting together my "alternative 365" album which are of photos that didn't make the main album and experiements - maybe 2 books to choose from!

I don't think I can afford that =[ I proper want to make a book, but I'm not sure the cheapest way to do so...
December 30th, 2010
@naomi well i guess there will be other places doing this stuff - maybe cheaper? it was the concept i liked!
December 30th, 2010
Thanks for that Juliette. I'm thinking of getting a book done when I reach the end so I'll keep this place in mind.

you can also use Shutterfly for making a book, idk if it's cheaper, but it's an alternative.

My daughter gave me a book of some of my 2010 photos and had it made by Shutterfly, http://www.shutterfly.com/. Not sure what is "too expensive", but I know it turned out beautifully and is now in a place of honor on my coffee table! That may be what I take a picture of for today's shot, so check it out :-)

My aunt makes tons of books all the time with Blurb. Very nice quality, and there's a ton of different options. The software is easy to use, too. That's an interesting idea about making a book! I'll have to keep that in mind once my 1st year of 365 is up in August.

you can usually search online to find coupon codes for blurb.
i had to make a book for my documentary photo class as a final project, and i used blurb. amazing results, great customer service, and fast shipping.
i highly recommend them, and will be using them to make a book of my 365 :)

cheers for the links ... will do one when the project is complete as a mielstone of completion and growth.

Vistaprint have lots of freebiesand photo books are often on offer. I hve had stuff from them before and the quality is excellent. You only pay a small one-off fee to upload your pictures. If you want to upgrade the offer the charge is slightly higher, but I can certainly recommend their service.

In Australia Big W is one of the cheapest places to have photo books made, I have had several from them and they are good quality and very reasonable. I'm not sure about costs when you come to put 365 photos in the book, mine have usually been under 100 photos.

@naomi
www.picaboo.com has excellent quality books! not sure on their price comparatively speaking, but I do love their books!

I just ordered one from picaboo and I LOVE it. I think this blurb one might have been a little more affordable though, it looks like their base price included up to 40 pages. The picaboo (and most others I checked in to) only included 20 pages, then add a price per page. I'm gonna check it out further and see how flexible the blurb one is. I really liked that picaboo let me have creative freedom on every part of the book. but my 36 page book was almost $75 before the 30% off they were running at the time.

@sparkle Thanks for the info - I've been meaning to check into making a book also. I don't finish until April so I still have time to investigate. Looks pretty affordable at Blurb.

I've used my publisher when I was working on a book for my parents documenting my first year in australia. Also did a sister book for my two younger sibs, and a memorial book for my cat Vegemite that got killed by the neighbors dog (was a good way to help me move on)

This was a few years ago now, havent done one since, but I found it fairly flexible and a lot simpler than some magazine layout programs I've had to deal with.

They run deals from time to time, spend a month working on it and your should be able to at least get the buy one get one (good for holidays)

I use Snapfish for digital prints In Australia so will see if they can do a photo book for me. Not sure if they can do 365 photos, but if not, I have plenty of other ideas from this thread. Thanks.

Snapfish wouldn't let me use 365 photos, so I will explore some other options mentioned here.

@emileigh @hmgphotos @wereradletshug @redkite @suzyf @dawnetta @girlincamo @neda @margaretg thanks guys for all your comments, some great links here. I've got a long way to get my 365 finished, but will practise on creating a book for my recent Nepal expedition! Happy New Year to you all

@sparkle Thanks for the link, i've been looking at getting a book made but I want to do one photo per page and none of the sites that i've seen before (shutterfly, snapfish etc) do this.

Blurb seems to be the only one that'll give you enough pages to cover one photo a page. It looks pretty expensive for the large square but I figure that i've put in so much time over this last year that it'll be worth it :)

As an interesting aside, I've heard from some people that you may want to super saturate the images before sending them to a printer so that what comes out looks like your image. That said, its possibly because the printers may not be configured properly? Food for thought

@toast thanks for the response, I might start off with a small book first to "trial" the results. Supersaturing images sounds interesting - sounds like it's worth having a play around!!

I own a photobook company and love to see the 365 books coming through. They are very interesting. Not many people are doing them in comparison to other themes (weddings, birthdays, pet, family etc).

The best books are the ones that people have made an effort with each photo, even when it's just car keys or a cup of coffee. It's amazing how good you can make car keys or a shopping list look if you try.

@toast

picaboo also allow full page photos... I'm currently making a book for our 2010 Christmas, and I've set up several photos that way.
