using the i-phone app - question and sync-ing account

I'm new to 365 - can someone tell me whether the i-phone app and the online program are linked? If so, how do I get them sync-ed? When I load something to my 365 from i-phone it does not appear in my on-line account. Thanks for any help.

I've seen an app in itunes for it, but the reviews haven't been very good. I'm not sure if it's official or not as I can't find any mention of it on here.
