Etsy - your thoughts?

Hello dear 365 community :o)

I'm considering selling artwork on Etsy (photography, paintings, crafts, etc), but first thought I would ask here for any feedback from current Etsy users. My main concern is the level of involvement as far as printing & shipping each item. I'm also curious to hear your satisfaction with the site.

I'm currently a retailer on Fine Art America..... and the main plus here is that they print, frame, ship everything for me (but it is limited as far as what I can sell - only prints - and I feel there % of take is a bit unfair).

I'd love to hear your thoughts (negative and positive)! THANKS!

I have purchased but never sold on etsy. My sister in law sells hand-painted glassware and other items and my sitter sells hand-decorated cookies locally and they have both had positive experiences . . . of course printing and shipping can be cumbersome, just depends on how much time you want to put into it . . . Good luck!

I like etsy, I have stuff on there myself. You only pay 20 cent per item you list, and they only take 3.5 percent of the profit.

The down side to etsy is that there are SOOOOOO many people selling on there. You really have to promote your work if you want to sell. I have an etsy shop and it was pretty slow moving. I sold 12 things in one year :( I probably could have pushed it more....but I didn't) I would say it is more a hobby for me than a main source of income. I do better selling at the local antique/craft mall.
You should give it a try though. I learned a lot while setting it up and still have my site open : http://www.etsy.com/shop/eringoodman?show_panel=true

Thank you all so much! @eringoodman - I love your shop, very cute! And hopefully I can use the fact that there are sooo many people to my advantage.
