Model Releases

Just wondering where we stand with model releases considering our subjects vary and may include recognizable people given we are posting to the internet?

The general rule is that you only need a model release if you are selling the photo, in either print or electronically as a rights-managed download. For the most part, if you are only posting them online, you are fine.

But here is the big difference: photographers are protected for taking photos of people when they don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

If you shoot a person in a public space, they have no expectation of privacy and therefore you are fine. However, shooting someone inside their home is a no no most of the time. And a gray area is if you are standing on a public street and shoot someone inside their living room. I wouldn't do that either.
