I'm interested in what camera bags you have found especially usefull and convenient for overseas travel. I have an old LowPro fanny pack that accomodates my Nikon D60 plus one extra lense. I have been loyal to this bag, but it really advertises...camera.
I purchased a think tank airport security, last year when i traveled to paris. I love the bag today. its about the size of a small carry on but protected my two camera bodies and all my lenses with a great locking that was built into the bag. Im very pleased with the quality, but the price was rather expensive from Penn Camera in Maryland
Good luck
Ive tryed this bag for my photo gear and as a outdoor/wildlife photographer this back packing is wonderfull course its total waterproof and contain all you need even a thermos with hot coffe ...
I bought a Janine King bad for my Nikon D90. It holds the camera and up to two lenses (though the lenses have to be relatively small). It doesn't look like a camera bag and you can choose from tons of styles. It isn't as comfortable or sensible as a backpack style bag, but it's really handy. http://www.etsy.com/shop/janinekingdesigns?section_id=6585125
@ldpaul I totally hear what you're saying ... no way would I walk around my city with one of these 'camera bags' on its own. You can get a bag that is very fitted to the D60 with lens, plus a detachable bag for the extra lens, and place them both in a nondescript backpack (preferably one that's been around the block a bit and of no interest to passersby).
I should have mentioned that the bag I currently have reckons it can hold a body and a lense, but you can easily fit more than that. I also have a few filters and can keep my purse and a few other gadgets in it.
@otprofsp Thanks so much for this link...I've been struggling with my bag and it looks like a camera bag...I always feel like I'm begging to be mugged. These are perfect!
well, i have a couple that i often use, a domke, and national geographic, but they also kinda scream photo gear here, and they are a bit... rough from abuse. i also, as crazy as it sounds, have an army m51 engineers bag that i have dropped a couple domke inserts into for extra padding.
it is a shoulder bag and looks not much at all like a camera bag. it is a bit rough - army olive drab, and i am getting ready to drive over it and drag it behind my truck for a short way, then wash it a couple times (not with gear in it, but to rough it up a bit)
Reviving this.... Only had a dslr for a few months so haven't had to travel with it yet. I've got a nice Lowepro backpack that holds everything. However, I'm going on a trip next year to Uganda. I won't have my own transport all the time so need to pack light. I'll be carrying a somewhat large backpack with all my clothing, etc, but it's not going to hold all the camera gear as well. I can't carry 2 backpacks!
Any ideas? Outside of the capitol it's not a high crime country, but if an easy opportunity to snatch something arose, someone would take it. I've looked at the different bags but I guess it'll need to be a bum bag worn on the front as something extra on my shoulders would be too painful. I've got 3 lenses. And a tripod. Help!
